SeaGlass the Boat

SeaGlass is a 58ft steel hulled Bill Dixon designed sailing yacht. Her AeroRig has a free standing carbon fibre mast and makes her easy to sail short handed and very forgiving in heavy weather, while holding her sails in place in light airs - no more collapsing headsails!

She has a lifting keel operated by a hydraulic ram controlled from the cockpit which gives her a draft from 6ft to 12ft.

Her deck saloon gives excellent views of the anchorage and her pilot house gives superb protection from unpleasant weather.

Powered by a Lewmar 135 diesel engine her 1450 litres of fuel give an extensive range optimised by her Hundestedt variable pitch propeller.

A large (1000ah) battery bank supports refrigeration (freezer, food fridge and large drinks fridge, both AC and DC powered with keel coolers obviating the need for raw water intake) together with an ice maker and an entertainment system including flat screen tv in the saloon. Video screens at the nav staion and in the cockpit are linked so that navigation information can also be displayed throughout.

Batteries are charged by the 300amp alternator under way; or by either the Northern Lights (14kva) or the MasterVolt (6kva) generators which also power the air conditioning when not on shore power.

Two fresh water makers provide mutual backup, a SeaFresh system giving 30gph powered hydraulically from either the main engine or the Northern Lights generator and a Spectra Clark pump giving 10gph powered from the battery bank by DC pumps.

A large bow thruster is hydraulically powered by the Northern Lights generator and cockpit winches and anchor capstans are powered by the Lewmar Power Pack, as is the aft windlass which also enables the dinghy to be lifted easily onto the aft davits. Mast winches are electric.

Although the galley boasts an electric oven and microwave and electric hobs, much of the cooking in the climates in which we prefer to be is done on the large custom barbeque situated on the aft deck, which also sports a wok.

The two heads are fresh water systems and the aft head is resplendant with it's own bath.
